Marco Perella’s Film Actor Workshop

I believe actors improve in direct proportion to the amount of actual acting that they're doing. Therefore I give each actor multiple scenes with a two-camera setup in every class so they work on a variety of skills... Drama, Comedy, Romance, Sci Fi, Horror...all with great scenes from great movies and TV shows. There is always an emphasis on auditioning but we also cover blocking, props, monologues and emotional prep. Taught by a 40 year veteran actor with over 90 principal credits in film and TV shows and over 35 years of teaching experience. Recent roles in Boyhood, Queen of the South, My All American, The Son, Leftovers and American Crime.

Class will begin with a mix of familiar, functional movement patterns exploring body availability, human relation, space occupied, and space created. After generating muscular warmth through improvisational games and isometric ideas, we will continue on to technical phrase work, both standing and floor-centric, drawing attention to momentum, efficiency, and body awareness. We work to expand our limits through a wide range of largely locomotive and athletic movements, involving weight shifts, directional changes, and exploring the body’s relationship to gravity. Together we will create a shared experimental space where figuring shit out, mistakes, and individuality are welcome. You will sweat!

Modern Dance began as the result of curiosity, about what could lie beyond the rigors of the classical tradition. Our class is a beautiful combination of strengthening and exploration sequences. It grants dancers the use of weight, momentum, and space awareness, the necessary ingredients for the ultimate act of corporeal expression. It is constantly evolving and it is ever informed by social, aesthetic, and scientific developments. We believe the art of dance builds character, empathy and beautiful physicality, only when it is taught with joy and safety. Our art lasts only as long as our ability to create with our bodies. Safety is paramount. diversespacedance.com

Contemporary Ballet for Teens and Adults

Contemporary Ballet requires precision and mobility; without the rigidity of shape or space that, unfortunately, some classical training can produce when taught “by numbers”. Contemporary Ballet still uses the classical vocabulary and the aesthetic of a beautiful line. Yet it gives dancers all the advantages provided by modern research and movement investigation. Contemporary ballet has an incredible sense of multidimensional coordination, where the full body is contributing to the motion and not solely invested into a pose. diversespacedance.com

Movement Education in Irmgard Bartenieff Lineage. Find flow, momentum, coordination, full body expression. Contemporary dancers and all other types of movers are welcome. www.austinsomaticmovement.com

All of the exercises are executed while lying on the floor. The floor
becomes the prop from which the body will yield and push, mobilize and stabilize, and also eliminate the challenge from gravity. We will focus on body alignment, core and breath support, coordination, and how our bodies are organized. It is a kind of workout that will not make you sweat or test your muscle strength, but it will ask to think deeply
about simple movements. People who take these workshops often leave feeling grounded, limber, awake and more connected to their bodies. This is an all levels workshop that can meet the needs of seasoned yogis and movers and also those of us who are just starting our mind-body-centered workouts. No yoga mat required. Wear comfortable clothing, sleeves and socks recommended.

Kids Modern with Toni Bravo

BLiPSWiTCH - Contemporary Forms

Bartenieff Floor and Floor Barre with Ellen Bartel Dance Collective
